Having issues diagnosing problems with your NP205 transfer case?

We can help free knowledgeable technical support! We have a large inventory of rebuilt NP205 transfer cases plus Transfer Case parts. The NP205 is a single piece cast iron case with helical gear driven transfer case with a 1.96:1 reduction in low and 1:1 in high range, it was used in a variety of applications from 1969-1980 in Dodge, Ford, GM. The Ford NP205 has a driver side front output and is available in a “separate” and “direct” versions, the direct version has a female 31 spline input gear and bolts directly to the transmission adapter housing. The “separate” Ford NP205 has a yoke type input and connects to the transmission with the use of a short driveshaft. The GM NP205 has a passenger side front output and is available in fixed or slip yoke output, the 10 and 27 spline versions require drive sleeves to mate to the transmission.

The helical gear set in the NP205 is thicker which allows more surface area to distribute the load over a wider surface.

The NP205 was manufactured with manual shift, it is a replacement unit for the earlier units, it is a part time case. The front driveshaft will not receive power when in 2WD the transfer case is gear driven, 1.96:1 ratio reduction in low and 1:1 in high range, and a manual shift.
