Ford 2000 F550 need Transmission

I have a Ford F550 2000 model year 7.3L 2WDQuestion:  Looking at a 6 speed manual truck for sale in New Mexico. Owner says it only moves in 2 gears : 2nd and overdrive. It has 260,000 miles on it.
