1999 Dodge Ram 1500 Popping out of gear.

I have a 1999 Dodge Ram 1500 V6 2WD Question:  My trans pops out of 1st gear. Told that it is the synchronize gear. How much is the gear and do i need special tools. I do all my own work just never took a 5 speed apart,Answer:  This problem is more than likely a fork, gear and slider  issue. there is a special holding fixture for putting the trans back together and a special tool for installing the ext. housingThe tools to do the job are around $490 through Chrysler if still available. Below are the parts you will probably need.

  • 1-2 Shift Fork, 1.950" Steel Piece (93-Up) part number TRS404841B your cost $37.17

  • 1-2 Synchro Assembly (NV 3500) (3 Piece Type) (L93-Up) part number ALT34403 your cost $76.86
