Transmission Problem 88 Toyota Pickup
I have a Toyota pickup 1988 2.4L engine.Question: I let my father in law use my truck to drive from Mississippi to Colorado which is a far drive for such an old truck he made it almost completely back until 3rd and 4th gear started grinding when they are engaged. I tried the shift lever bushings which is usually the issue for Toyota trucks but they still grind and knocks itself out of gear the only thing I can think of would be the gears are stripped and a rebuild or replacement is needed.Answer: Sounds like it is possible that the input bearing is failing. 4th gear is the input and 3rd is right behind it. it is also possible that the gears have an issue but hard to tell until it is opened up.If you decide to open it up we will have all of the parts for it in stock..We assume this is a fuel injected vehicle? If that’s correct we can provide a remanufactured transmission that will be dyno tested prior to shipment. Order our part number MTTOY007 W56E, 5 speed 4WD, your cost is $933.00 plus $250.00 core deposit, plus freight. This transmission has a one year warranty.
