T45 Mustang 5 Speed Shifting Problems

I have a 1997 Ford Mustang 4.6L with the T45, 5 speed

Question:  My transmission is hard to shift into any gear, except 3rd and 4th because they are gone completely.  I think poor shifting performance is due to the synchronizes and broken 3/4 shift fork.  Can you provide a list of parts to fix this problem?Answer:You have the Ford T45, 5 Speed transmission, from your description and our experience we believe your transmission shifting problems is caused by excessive bearing and syncro ring wear, excessive bearing wear will allow the shaft to move, combined with damaged ¾ shift fork.  We suggest you order the following parts:

  • Bearing Overhaul kit for T45 4.6L Mustang part number MWT250WS your cost is $370.87

  • ¾ shift fork our part number TRS386843 your cost is $54.84 plus freight.

  • Once you have the unit a part carefully inspect the other internal part, pay attention the part where the ¾ fork rides.

We suspect that with your motor experience you can get this overhaul done, if you need additional technical support or help with re-assembly give Scott a call toll free 888-824-2012 he can help you.  You can see the other parts we can provide for the T45 on our site
