Mileage Gain 700R4 Automatic to NV4500 Manual

I have that 1972 Blazer, thanks for the cost estimated to convert from  automatic transmission to manual 5 speed NV4500, I need more information. I understand your upgrade kit for this application includes:

  • New NV4500

  • New Bell Housing

  • Clutch & Flywheel

  • Shifter Stub Stick

  • NP205 adapter.

Question: This Blazer currently has a 700R4 automatic in it that the previous owner had installed. Not a cheap conversion itself. Am I crazy even considering the 5 speed knowing it has the 700R4 in it?  Will I gain any mileage out of the 5 speed?Answer:   We would expect that the NV4500  5 speed will gain 1 – 2 miles per gallon for the simple reason that the vehicle is not losing power thru the torque converter. The NV4500 is a lot stronger transmission than the 700R4 so decision is going to be based on what you do with the vehicle, if it’s a heavy duty application you probably want to proceed.
