Ford Ranger 1992 Trans Problem
I have a Ranger 1992 4.0L 4WDQuestion:My neighbor and I are feeling ambitious; it was ran without oil, the bearing on the input shaft got really hot and the input shaft twisted off. We've decided to repair vice get one from the junkyard; it's a 92, what have I got to lose? We've got all the gears and bearings removed from the main shaft on the back end, but can't figure out to remove the main shaft from the housing. The end of the input shift (pc 5) is in the way; we've removed the clip (pc 8) and are now at a stand still.Answer: The broken piece of the input shaft needs to come off of the end of the mainshaft in order to get the mainshaft out of the main case of the transmission. I assume it is stuck on there due to being burnt up? This is usually what happens. They may be welded together and may not come apart without a torch.
