Ford BW1356 Stuck in Low Range

See this content in the original post

I have a 1989 Ford Bronco with the 5.0LT engine 4WD.Question:  I just got this Bronco & tested my 4x4 & it stuck in low range. I had a mechanic take off the electric motor off the transfer case & the actuator shaft that spins to switch from 2wd to 4h & 4l was just spinning in the housing. It didn't stop on the marked sections. What is wrong with the transfer case? Is that actuator shaft broken or are the gears or chain broken inside? Is this a usual broken part on this model of transfer caseAnswer: From your description of the problem it sounds like a range fork/ range hub problem. This is a common problemFor the BW1356 transfer case. Below is a list of parts that we would recommend be replaced during this repair cycle:

  • Range reduction Fork TRS325849 your cost is $12.90

  • Range Slider 38 teeth non updated TRS1356-089-001

  • Gasket and seal KIt TRSTSK1356 your cost is $15.25

  • Oil pump kit 9 piece TRS325500K your cost $54.94

It is also possible that this year, make and model could have a plantary issue also where oil grooves are worn out in the planet. If this is the case you will need:Plantary 38 range teetch non updated part number TRS1356.659-007 your cost is $257.97 plus S&H.You can see the other parts that we can supply for your BW1356 on our site.If you need additional information give Scott a call 888-824-2012 he can help you.
