Corvette T56 Shifting into Reverse

Questions:

I have a 2000 C5 coupe with 205K on the speedometer. I recently started experiencing difficulty in putting the car into reverse..first with gear grinding and often it refusing to go in at all....I've adjusted the shifter several times but it makes little difference...There is no difficulty shifting in any other gear...the clutch was replaced approximately 5k miles ago Can you help?...

Answer:

Based on our experience with the T56 indicates the problems are related to mileage, worn bearings allow shafts to move slightly also worn syncro/slider can contribute to this problem.  We would suggest pulling the transmission and sending it to the factory  to be repaired.A remanufactured exchange unit is $2395.00 exchange plus core deposit of $1000.00 and we assume your existing transmission could be repaired for around $1200 - $1500 plus freight. If you decide to rebuild the unit yourself we can provide a Bearing Rebuild Kit with Syncro Rings T56(97-04) (Corvette) part number MWT396AWS your cost $801.00 plus S&H.  You can see a detailed list of parts that we can supply on our site.
