2003 Yukon Transfer Case Problem
I have a Yukon XL 5.3LQuestion: Im having problems with low speed turns and wheel binding both forward and reverse. The rear wheels are the ones scuffing. The transfer case is a NR4 according to the sticker in the glove box.I have placed the transfer case in the neutral towing mode and coasted down a incline. when the wheels were turned to either side the vehicle slowed as if the brakes were being applied . when I am in 4LOW it is not as bad as 4HI. I want to fix the truck and realize its either the TC of the rear diff just looking for a direction.Answer: Sounds like it is a transfer case problem….This is a BW4484 transfer case that has a differential assembly in it I assume there is an issue with the pinion gears binding in the transfer case and as long as all 4 wheels are turning and there is not an actuator on the front diff to disconnect it will bind even in (N)We recommend you drain the fluid and look for metal particles/chunks, to be sure and this should give you a pretty good indication on what’s going on.We can provide a rebuilt transfer case it our part number TCGM048 your cost is $1460.00 exchange with a $350 core charge plus freight.Once you get a look at the fluid give Scott a call toll free 888-824-2012 he can help you.
