1999 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 NP261 Transfer Case Problem
I own a 1999 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 with NP261 Light Duty Transfer Case. Question: This is a very nice pickup I use 4WD sometimes in the winter month, with little off road activities. The transfer case lately has started jumping out of gear, Can you tell me what the problem might be? Answer: Based on our experience with the NP261 Light Duty the popping out of gear you mentioned is typically caused by problems associated with the input shaft, input bearing and or worn case where the input bearing rides. It will be necessary to remove the transfer case, dis-assembly and inspect the unit you should pay attention the the range hub and range fork for excessive wear, they may need to be replaced. You can see the parts that we can provide for repair of your NP261LDL transfer case on our site. A detailed parts assembly drawing is available.
