1973 Nova Saginaw Shifting Problem
I have a 1973 Chevrolet Nova 350 engine.Question: the shifting from 1st to 2nd grinds a little, the 3rd to 2nd and then to 1st i need to be in a certain RPM range in order to not grind. is it signs of a worn clutch or just the age of the trans?Answer: We believe your transmission is a cast iron Saginaw from your description it sounds like the syncros are bad… 1st gear is non synchronized so that is normal for first but not 2nd gear. It is possible that excessive bearing wear is allowing the shafts to move front to back and contributes to the shifting problem. We suggest you order our Bearing Rebuild Kit Saginaw (4 speed) with Syncro Rings our part number MWT115AWS your cost is $147.85 plus S&H.If you need additional technical assistance just give us a call 888-824-2014, you can see the other parts that we can provide for the Saginaw transmission on our site.
